Spring Seals

Moss Seal supplies spring-energized seals for applications where elastomers reach their limits. A PTFE or polymer jacket provides the sealing surface while a corrosion-resistant metal spring supplies constant contact force, so the seal performs from cryogenic temperatures through high heat and across chemically aggressive fluids. We match jacket material, spring type, and profile to your pressure, speed, and media, for rotary, reciprocating, or static applications where reliability and low friction matter.

ENGINEERING

Cross-section design & operation

A U-shaped polymer jacket houses a metal spring energizer that preloads the sealing lips and keeps them in contact as the jacket wears and conditions change.

Ring styles

The jacket is machined with two lips separated by a spring cavity. Spring type sets the load profile: cantilever for low friction in dynamic service, helical for high load in static and slow-speed applications, and canted coil for a near-constant force over a wide deflection range.

How it works

At installation, the spring compresses and forces the lips against the shaft and bore. The polymer jacket does not rely on elastic memory, so the spring maintains sealing contact where a plain plastic seal would relax over time.

Pressure response

System pressure enters the cavity and pushes the lips outward, adding to the spring load in proportion to demand. Sealing force stays low at rest for minimal friction and rises automatically as pressure increases.
