Nitrile
General-purpose oil and fuel resistance for moderate-duty sealing applications.

Moss Seal supplies rotary seals for shafts in pumps, mixers, gearboxes, swivels, and drive assemblies, where the sealing element has to run continuously against a turning surface without overheating or wearing a groove into the shaft. Surface speed, not just pressure, drives the design: lip load, material, and lubrication all have to be balanced against the heat generated at the contact. We specify seals from your shaft diameter, speed, fluid, and temperature range.
ENGINEERING
A lightly loaded lip rides on the rotating shaft, held in contact by its own section and, where fitted, a garter spring.
Contact width is kept deliberately narrow so surface speed does not generate excessive frictional heat. A garter spring maintains radial load as the lip wears and as the elastomer relaxes over time.
Shaft rotation draws a thin lubricating film under the lip. That film carries the load and removes heat, so the seal runs on fluid rather than dry rubber against steel.
Material selection follows surface speed and temperature. PTFE and filled compounds handle dry running and high speeds where nitrile would char, while shaft finish and hardness are specified to prevent grooving.
SELECTION
Continuous rotary duty · Seals at zero pressure · Spring-maintained lip load · Compensates for lip wear · Low frictional heat · Retains lubricant
