Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW) offers the highest abrasion resistance of any thermoplastic, combined with very low friction, high impact strength, and excellent resistance to most acids, alkalis, and solvents. It is self-lubricating and non-marking, and it performs well at low temperatures where other polymers become brittle. Moss Seal supplies UHMW for wear strips, guide rails, slides, bushings, and seal components in abrasive slurry, material handling, and mining service. The limitations are temperature and stiffness: continuous service is restricted to roughly 180°F (82°C), and the material creeps under sustained load, so it is specified for wear duty rather than for structural or high-pressure sealing.
